Etihad launches Mapped-Out Linkedin Tool

Did you know that LinkedIn has more than 150 million users around the world? It’s pretty much emerged as the ultimate website for professional networking. With that amazing growth – and the fact that most users (51%) have between 0-500 direct connections – the only concern is information overload. Keeping track of your connections isn’t easy… or at least, it hasn’t been easy until now!

Etihad Airways, national airline of the United Arab Emirates has launched its new Linkedin ‘Mapped-Out’ app allowing Linkedin users to find their connections on a global scale.

Launched to target business travellers, Etihad’s new app allows uses to find their first and/or second degree connections using parameters such as geographical areas, as well as, who are on Etihad’s global flight network. Filtering connections by industries is another option available with the tool to target specific business areas to connect and communicate. Peter Baumgartner, Etihad Airways’ Chief Commercial Officer, explained: “As a global airline, Etihad Airways connects points and people from across the globe, so our Etihad Mapped-Out tool which taps into LinkedIn’s global audience of over 200 million is an extension of that mission. From the connections they find, users of the app are able to message their connections instantly from the contact list on the same page.

From its base in Abu Dhabi, Etihad will fly to 83 passenger destinations around the world this year and the Mapped-Out tool allows guests to take advantage of how the world is getting smaller via technology and travel. With the fast growing airline’s expansion plans, the idea of creating the ability to connect with others on its network so easily is a great idea. Promoting the airline and targeting an important demographic, the business traveller, through using a personalized map is a nice touch. Etihad recently launched its third US destination, Washington DC, and has plans to expand further into the United States next year along with Sao Paulo, it’s first South American destination being launched this Summer, adding to the necessity for such a useful tool.
